The mission of Bayshore Counseling Services is to create a system of care that will engage individuals in prevention, mental health, and recovery services in order to become participants in a healthy community. We provide a complete range of mental health, chemical dependency, prevention, intervention and treatment services for adults, adolescents, children and their families in an outpatient setting. Consumers are expected to be an active participant in their treatment. All services are provided by qualified clinicians and therapists who adhere to their professional code of ethics.

Henrietta Whelan, MSW, LISW-S – Executive Director

Henrietta graduated with a Masters in Social Work degree from The Ohio State University. She is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with supervisory credential. Henrietta has been in the behavioral health field for 30-plus years.  She has been at Bayshore Counseling since 1995 as a Mental Health Therapist, Clinical Director and is currently the Executive Director.

Ashley Ramey-Hammond, MS, LPCC - Mental Health Therapist

Ashley graduated from the University of Louisville in 2007 and earned a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana State University in 2011.  She is a Professional Counselor licensed to serve all populations yet has additional training and experience working with children and adolescents, survivors of all types of abuse, and those navigating through life transitions.

Tammy Henderson, MA, PC -  Mental Health Therapist

Tammy graduated from Heidelberg University, Tiffin, OH in 2011 with a Masters degree in Community Counseling. She is a licensed Professional Counselor.  Specific areas of competency include: chemical dependency, crisis intervention, diagnosis, and bereavement counseling.

Chelsea Smith, M.Ed., LPC, CDCA -  Chemical Dependency Counselor

Chelsea graduated with a Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Cleveland State University in May 2016. She is licensed as a Professional Counselor and certified as a Chemical Dependency Counselor. Chelsee works in the Sandusky office providing both Mental Health and Chemical Dependency services. Specific areas of competency include: Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Assessment, Diagnosis, and Treatment, Individual Counseling, and Group Counseling.

Teresa Howell, MA, PCC-S – Chemical Dependency Supervisor

Teresa graduated from Wright State University with a Masters degree of Science in Mental Health Counseling. She has been working in the Mental Health and Chemical Dependency field since 2006. Teresa has an independent license as a Professional Clinical Counselor and specializes in addictions counseling, dual diagnosis counseling, employee assistance counseling, career counseling, family counseling, marriage counseling and the diagnoses and treatment of emotional and mental disorders. Teresa is currently the supervisor for the Chemical Dependency counselors in Erie and Ottawa County.

Courtney Burger – Behavioral Health Counselor

Courtney graduated from Heidelberg University in 2014 with a Masters Degree in Clinical Counseling. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She provides both mental health and chemical dependency services.

Shantae Collins MSW, LSW -  Chemical Dependency Case Manager

Shantae graduated with a Masters in Social Work degree from The Ohio State University. She is also a Licensed Social Worker. Shantae provides case management services specializing in coordinating services, linking clients to resources and tracking current probation clients for Ottawa County Municipal Court Adult Probation Department.

Melissa Fowler, M.Ed., LPC – Behavioral Health Counselor

Melissa graduated from Kent State University in May 2014 with a Masters of Education with a focus on Mental Health Counseling. She currently holds a license from the state of Ohio as a Licensed Professional Counselor. She provides individual and group mental health and drug and alcohol counseling, along with conducting diagnostic assessments. She provides services at the Erie Co Adult Probation office three days a week.

Julie graduated with a Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in 2011 and is licensed as a Professional Counselor. She works in the Port Clinton office providing both Mental Health and Chemical Dependency services.

Angela Harris, BSW, LSW - Chemical Dependency Counselor

Angie graduated from Spring Arbor University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Social Work and is a Licensed Social Worker. Angie will be returning to Spring Arbor University in August, 2016 to complete their Masters of Social Work program. Currently, she provides group, individual counseling and assessments at the Erie County Jail, facilitates Thinking for a Change for Erie County Adult Probation, and represents Bayshore Counseling Services at Benchmark Drug Court.

Joshua Pitts, MA, LICDC - Chemical Dependency Counselor

Josh graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2010 with a Masters of Science in Addiction Counseling.  Josh currently holds a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III license from the State of Ohio and provides group, individual counseling and assessments for chemically dependent clients in the Port Clinton office.

Janet Leffler, MAC, LPC, LCDCIII - Chemical Dependency Counselor

Janet graduated from the University of Cincinnati, in 2004, with a Bachelor of Science in substance abuse counseling. She is also a graduate of Heidelberg University, Tiffin, Ohio in 2010, with a Master's degree in Community Counseling. She is licensed as both a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III and a Licensed Professional Counseling from the State of Ohio.

Katherine Simmons – Behavioral Health Counselor

Katherine graduated from Kent State University (BA) and the University of Maryland (MA) with degrees in English. She also received a Masters of Arts in Clinical Spiritual Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary. Katherine is a Licensed Clinical Counselor with a supervisory endorsement who has experience diagnosing, assessing, and treating children, adolescents and adults in home-based as well as center-based settings through individual and group modalities and in emergency situations.

Jackie VanScoder - Chemical Dependency Counselor

Jackie VanScoder graduated with an Associate of Applied Science Human and Social Services Technology, from Marion Technical College in 2014 and currently holds a CDCA from the State of Ohio Chemical Dependency Board. She currently attends Mount Vernon Nazarene University where she is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. She works in the Sandusky office providing Chemical Dependency services.

Rebecca Dills, MSW, LISW - Mental Health Therapist

Rebecca graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor in Social Work degree in December 2008 becoming a Licensed Social Worker in January, 2009. In May 2011, she graduated from the University of Toledo with her Masters of Social Work degree. Rebecca works with individuals and families ranging from childhood to older adulthood.

Donna Kelley, OCPS I - Prevention Supervisor/Parent Educator

Donna graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Kent State University. She is credentialed as an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist I. Donna provides Prevention programming in the schools or to any interested groups.  She is also a Parent Educator providing different parenting programs to anyone wanting tools for their parenting toolkit.

Carrie Kennedy – Prevention Intervention Counselor

Carrie graduated from University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Social Work degree in May 2008 becoming a Licensed Social Worker in July, 2009. In May 2015, she graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Masters in Science in Social Administration with a Direct Practice in Youth, Children and Families' degree. She is credentialed as an Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) Consultant and provides prevention programming (specializing in ages 0-8) within the schools and within the community.

Sandy Schuh, BA, LSW – Prevention Intervention Counselor

Sandy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Ohio University in 1990 and became a Licensed Social Worker several years later. She has provided Prevention services at Bayshore Counseling for the past 8 years delivering individual, group and classroom services to area students ranging from preschool to 8th grade.

Sara Stahl – Prevention Intervention Counselor

Sara has worked in the field of Social Work for over 20 years. She currently works as an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant implementing a program in preschool and kindergarten which focuses on providing support, education and services to children who are displaying behavioral concerns not responding to traditional interventions. This includes home visiting, parental support, and connecting of services. This program allows the ability to work with students and teachers providing education and training and support with the goal of assisting students to maintain in their classroom environment.

Teri Anderson – Prevention Intervention Counselor

Teri is a Prevention Specialist. Ms. Anderson graduated from Youngstown State University in 2014 and got her LSW. She works in the schools doing the Dina Dinosaur Puppet program and in the different areas of Prevention.
